The good news is that for most of us in British Columbia, the adventure can happen close to home and within a day’s drive. For years Nanaimo BC has been an underrated spring Chinook fishery and something only recognized by some of the locals. Since Chinooks are predictable due to their migration patterns being the same, this makes the timing of their migratory runs consistent.
Typically you will fish for Chinook (king) salmon exclusively from May to July. You will also target Coho (Silvers), Sockeye, and Pinks as well in August and September. Prime time for Chinooks is from May to July! The reefs near the Gulf Islands also provide some good ling cod and rock cod fishing in season. If you are looking for a change of pace at some point during the day we can take some time to explore and do some eco touring. This is a great way to increase your chances of seeing sea lions, seals, killer whales, bald eagles, and porpoise.
