Fishing Licence Average June through mid July is the best time for larger halibut and lingcod aswell as nice chinooks (kings) in the 10 -20 lb. range. Mid July through the end of August will produce large Chinooks up to Fifty pound's in the Bamfield area as well as an abundance of nice Chicken sized Hali's, mid August through September will provide large Coho (silver's) and Chinooks as well.

Yet they came and we went. Fishing was tricky due to the windy conditions. And, at first, I thought it was going to be one of those scratchy days, not a single bite in the first hour. But then we got near to the tide change and a famous island called the Five Fingers. Once we neared the Fingers, we had a double header. Once we arri...ved at the top (Northeast) end of the Fingers, it was non stop action. After an hour or so of hooking up with Coho and Chinook, the bite died off. We then made our way to Neck Point where near the end of the day, we pulled in a beauty, a fish that just topped the scales below 25 lbs. The winds died, the skies turned blue, and we ended the day with 2 beautiful Chinook and 3 hatchery Coho’s. They came despite the weather. They saw the amazing fishing Nanaimo has to offer. And they caught the bug of saltwater fishing. They’ll be back!
